I think flat panels don’t have to get much less expensive than they are. I think that when you get into the $1,000-$2,000 price range, that’s the sweet spot. I think if the industry were smart it would try figure out, ‘Gee, wouldn’t it be nice to make everyone a little bit of money…manufacturer’s could put it into R&D and [retailers] could put it into customer service.’
What happened was so much capacity came online in 2006. Last Christmas, these products were tight. If you had 50-inch TVs, you sold them—and I’m not talking about two, three years ago. I’m talking about 11 months ago. So it went from a very controlled marketplace where all you had to do from our standpoint was get 50 inch panels and sell them for what we wanted. Now there is a glut of them because of so much capacity online.
Is the flat panel craze an opportunity to sell other categories?
