RIM Profit Drops Slightly
BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Thursday posted a 4 percent drop in profit for the second quarter, the result of a legal settlement that was charged during the quarter.
The Canadian mobile giant reported a profit of $475.6 million, down from $495.5 million the same period the year before. Were it not for a nine-figure settlement paid to Visto Corp. in a patent dispute, the company said, the profit would have been $588 million.
The company had been expected to show a rise in profit.
