BlackBerry to Secure IoT Devices from Swiss Electronics Manufacturer
A new deal announced this week will see BlackBerry work with a Swiss consumer electronics manufacturer to license “BlackBerry Secure” cybersecurity technology in their products. Punkt Tronics AG, which manufacturers a unique range of IoT products from mobile phones to alarm clocks, will embed BlackBerry’s tech in their products. These certified BlackBerry Secure products will work with a range of home and enterprise networks.
“If 2017 has taught us anything it is that every device needs to be secured because any vulnerability will be found and exploited,” Alex Thurber, SVP and GM of Mobility Solutions for BlackBerry, said in a statement. “With cybersecurity becoming a concern for every household and enterprise, savvy manufacturers like Punkt are recognizing the value of protecting the integrity of their innovations and the resonance our brand has with consumers who are increasingly anxious about the security of the products they choose to bring into their homes and lives.”
According to BlackBerry, a BlackBerry Secure certification is “the most secure and comprehensive platform” for connecting people, devices, processes, and systems. The license provides product manufacturers with “a deeply embedded security solution” that uses BlackBerry’s proprietary software and applications, protecting them from attackers looking to exploit device vulnerabilities.
“At Punkt we’re focused on using technology to help us adopt good habits for less distracted lives, and we do this with carefully designed and elegantly crafted products,” Petter Neby, CEO and Founder of Punkt, said in the statement. “By incorporating BlackBerry’s security technology into our premium products, we can now offer customers the highest level of security, without compromising on the simple, modern design they love.”
