Blockbuster To Debut Rental Kiosks
Blockbuster has announced a pilot program that will put make movie rentals available through 50 kiosks, in a pilot program that could eventually place 10,000 kiosks nationwide in 18 months.
The initiative, which Blockbuster demonstrated earlier this year, is being conducted along with NCR Corp., a company known for making ATMs. The first deployment is set to begin this fall, with the first 50 installed by year’s end, the companies said. And while the kiosks will be rental-only at first, downloads are a possibility for the future.
“With NCR’s advanced technology, these machines will dispense a wide array of DVDs and could,” Blockbuster’s chairman and CEO, Jim Keyes, said as part of the announcement.
