After HD DVD Coup, Blu-ray Strikes Back
A day after the HD DVD format welcomed Paramount and DreamWorks into its exclusive fold, its rival Blu-ray Disc struck back, with its partners Twentieth Century Fox and MGM announcing a slate of 29 titles for the fall.
The new Fox titles include headliners Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Live Free or Die Hard, which will be accompanied by additional Blu-ray releases, in November, of the previous three “Die Hard” movies. Also listed by Fox is the first season of “Prison Break,” which marks the first Fox TV series released to Blu-ray. Fox plans to release films featuring a variety of firsts for the format, including picture-in-picture, and new multi-player trivia games.
Other titles on the slate include Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, The Day After Tomorrow, Edward Scissorhands and 28 Days Later in October, I Robot in November, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Independence Day, and Cast Away in December.
