Blu-ray Demand Reportedly Soft
While most consumers are aware that Blu-ray Disc has won the hi-def DVD format war, consumer interest in the technology remains soft, with only 9 percent of non-Blu-ray owners stating that they plan to buy such a player in the next year.
That’s according to an Internet survey of 2,500 U.S. adults by Harris Interactive, as cited by InformationWeek on Thursday. Meanwhile, less than 10 percent of respondents report that they currently own a Blu-ray Disc or HD DVD player.
The survey also found that 9 of 10 respondents asked own a standard-definition DVD player.
