Blu-ray Discs Coming to Supermarket Kiosks
DVDPlay, the company behind in-store supermarket DVD rentral kiosks that are ubiquitous throughout North America, has hopped aboard the Blu-ray bandwagon. The company announced this week that the first Blu-ray Discs will begin appearing in its kiosks next month, at the same cost ($1.49) as standard-DVD movie rentals.
Among the first movies released in early June will be “Men in Black” and “Untraceable.”
“The focus of this strategic decision is to prepare for the long term success and sustainability of the kiosk and ultimately give consumers what they want,” the company’s CEO, Chuck Berger, said as part of the announcement. “Recognizing the mainstream adoption of Blu-ray and offering it to our customers is something we were able to turnaround quickly.”
