Blu-ray Player Breaks $300 Barrier
While they certainly remain more expensive, on average, than hardware for rival HD DVD, Blu-ray Disc Players are experiencing a price drop of their own. According to the Web site HighDefDigest.com, Blu-ray players have been spotted at Best Buy, Circuit City and elsewhere for under $300.
The low price on the Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player, which is about $100 less than its MSRP, can also be found on Amazon.com. No such price cut has been officially announced the Blu-ray Disc Association. Meanwhile, Amazon has been selling another Blu-ray player, the Samsung BDP-1400, for $270, representing a new low for the format.
Meanwhile, on the HD DVD side of things, Amazon offered the entire ”Bourne Identity/Supremacy/Ultimatum” trilogy on HD DVD, with the purchase of the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on. The deal expired at the end of the day Tuesday, but Amazon’s “Ten Days, Ten Deals” sale continues.
