Blu-ray Sales Spike is Reported
In the weeks since the demise of HD DVD, sales of Blu-ray Discs have risen steadily- but the vast majority of movies are still being sold in standard-definition DVD. That’s according to a Hollywood Reporter story published late last week.
The story, citing numbers from Nielsen VideoScan First alert, found that several movies released on video in the weeks since the war ended have found as much of 10 percent of its audience on Blu-ray Disc. Examples included the Oscar-winning “No Country For Old Men,” which 9.8 percent of its first-day sales on Blu-ray, while “Hitman,” released the same day, sold 12.6 percent of its copies on Blu-ray.
Prior to the format war’s resolution, only 2-3 percent of most movies’ sales came in hi-def formats.
