Mobile aftermarket product supplier BOSS Audio Systems’ new double-DIN head unit has taken on a passenger: Amazon’s Alexa.
The LXA5 (which the company says is pronounced “Lexa5”) combination CD AM/FM receiver with DVD playback capability (for rear-seat passengers’ enjoyment), unwrapped during CES 2019, features a 6.2-inch capacitive touch screen and a high-quality microphone. It integrates Alexa Voice Service via Wi-Fi, enabling music streaming and smart home remote control, and there is a convenient rear-view-camera input, among other amenities.
Besides Alexa support, the LXA5 offers the BOSS GUI user interface, with embedded Bluetooth technology so that the car’s occupants can make calls and use GPS via a smartphone connection. An Aux input is connectable to the audio output of an external device such as an MP3 player or smartphone. Further, the LXA5 supports USB flash drive files and SD memory cards up to 32GB for music, photo and video playback.
Xin Hamilton, vice president of marketing, says the model will be “aggressively priced” and for sale beginning in April at $199.
