Brand Source Bolsters Web Presence
The Brand Source buying group is unveiling a newly revamped Web presence – the result of an 18-month-long overhaul that will “revolutionize the industry and put you way ahead of the big-box stores.” That’s what Brand Source CEO Bob Lawrence told attendees last night at the welcoming session for the National Convention and Buying Fair, held at Las Vegas’ Paris-Bally’s Center.
“Today between four and five percent of appliance purchases are dot-com purchases. But between now and 2012, 30 percent of appliance purchases will shift to a dot-com purchase,” said John White, the group’s vice president for appliances, in explaining a key reason for the move to upgrade brandsource.com. That trend, along with a consumer shift away from newspaper-reading as a method to garner product information and pricing before a purchase, was an impetus for the extensive overhaul, details of which are being provided here in a series of rolling seminars over the course of the four-day meeting.
Activities at the convention’s opening night included the presentation of Brand Source Dealers of the Year Awards by regions, the bestowal of a special regional manager award, the Butch DuBose Traveling Trophy Award, to Brand Source’s Jon Krueger, and market overviews by White, Michael Allen, vice president for furniture, and Jim Ristow, vice president for consumer electronics and head of the group’s Home Entertainment Source (HES) division.
