BrandSource is blazing a trail in the retail furniture and appliance industry. The company hosted their annual Leadership Conference December 4-6th in Sacramento. Region board members and leaders traveled from across the country to attend the highly anticipated event.
BrandSource spread some holiday cheer to the Sacramento community during the Leadership Conference. BrandSource members and vendors stepped up to help children in need. The company continued their 10-year tradition of raising money for a local charity through a friendly member and staff baking competition. BrandSource chose Marine Corps Toys for Tots in Sacramento as the charity of choice. BrandSource has been donating dollars raised to Marine Corps Toys for Tots for the last three years and are considered a 1-star partner with the organization.
Marine Corps Toys for Tots is a nonprofit charitable organization with the goal of gifting a new toy during the holidays to America’s less fortunate children. This year’s event held a special resonance as the donations will be used to support the victims of the recent fires in California. Regions, vendors and individual members contributed to the cause and surpassed last year’s donation amount, allowing them to donate over 7,500 toys for children in need.
Marine Staff Sergeant Walker, who attended the event on behalf of Marine Corps Toys for Tots had one word to describe the contest and the phenomenal contribution this group made – “Awesome,” he said. “Awesome.”
As part of the charity competition, members and staff competed in a sweet treat baking cook-off with each BrandSource region fielding baking team and vendor partners donating all the supplies, from utensils to appliances. Local BrandSource member, Gianelli’s Appliances and Repair, located in Rancho Cordova, California, donated their time to set up all the ovens at the outdoor venue. BrandSource staff judged the baking competition and picked the winner with the tastiest dessert.
The South Atlantic region of BrandSource won the golden spatula for the winning dish of pecan pie. Harry Buntyn, Region Manager and team captain, attributed the win to great teamwork, a wonderful recipe and a secret Kentucky bourbon ingredient.
As part of the 3-day conference, Jim Ristow, chief executive officer, of AVB, gave the assembled members a behind the scenes look at the goals, progress and performance of AVB’s business initiatives during the general session. Part of this process included having the National Board of Directors review and rate each business unit, which provided invaluable member feedback on the direction of the organization.
The goal, Ristow said, “Is to relentlessly improve every aspect of our business to ensure our members’ success and relevance in the industry. The process never stops.” Ristow also emphasized the importance of digital marketing in 2019. “9 out of 10 consumers are online before they buy” Ristow said. “Our mission in 2019 is to ensure our members have a digital presence to bring those customers to their stores.”
Following the general session, the regions broke off into rotations for breakout sessions with detailed conversations from the various units of the marketing company and participating vendors.
Overall, the BrandSource Leadership Conference was a huge success. Barry Kindy of North Canton TV & Appliance, Inc. in North Canton, Ohio was very pleased with the event, stating “this rejuvenates my energy and enthusiasm for the group. It is my job to convey this energy and communicate all the great things happening here in the marketing company and within the entire organization with the members back home. I wish they could be here to take this all in themselves. I have more confidence in the direction of this group than at any time in the past 25+ years I have been a member. I have complete faith in the leadership.”
