As it preps for a busy start to the summer months, independent retail buying group BrandSource announced details for its Young Professionals University event and unveiled the Heavy Hitters program planned for its Convention in Las Vegas.
The annual Young Professionals University (YPU) event, which was started in 2016, will be held in Tahoe, California June 11-14. The event is designed to bring together the next generation of industry leaders for a week of education and networking. More than 20 speakers from a wide range of areas within the industry will offer business advice to members in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.
The educational sessions at this year’s YPU will cover everything from nuts-and-bolts business training, to better understanding co-workers, and finding common ground. Specific sessions include: Best and worst marketing ideas; rebranding; communication styles of men and women; how different generations work together; and strategies to build customer loyalty and drive profitability, among others.
“We invest in Young Professionals University because these are the current influencers and future decision makers of this industry,” said Jennifer Baldwin, Director of Marketing and Member Communications for AVB, Inc. “The more successful they are the more successful their businesses will be, and that will benefit our industry in every way.”
Shifting attention to the BrandSource Convention scheduled for August 26-29 at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, BrandSource announced a new event that is designed to recognize top sales people in throughout the buying group’s community. According to BrandSource, Heavy Hitters, which will only be open to 250 salespeople, will offer full scholarships to attend the Convention, specialized education sessions, networking events, awards, and product trainings. The idea behind the event is to make it easier for sales staff members to get the benefits of attending BrandSource’s Convention.
“Retail sales people have always been the lifeblood of any good retail store, but because of their need to be on the sales floor and not away from the stores, we have found it difficult to train and recognize them properly,” BrandSource GM of Merchandising Chad Evans said. “We have had similar events on a smaller scale in past years, but we are excited that through support from some of our key vendors, we are able to extend this retail sales training program to a larger number of salespeople. This training program will drive sales people to provide better service and develop greater customer loyalty.”
This first annual Heavy Hitters event will be sponsored by a number of BrandSource vendors including Whirpool, Serta, Simmons, Electrolux, LG, and GE. In order to participate, a salesperson much be nominated by someone within their store. BrandSource said that applications submitted with an accompanying one-minute video of the candidate stating their name, store name, city, state, and why they should be chosen, will have an edge.
The deadline for applications is June 15.
