Budgee the Personal Assistant Robot is Now Being Shipped, and the Future is Officially Here
It’s been 30 years since Rocky IV hit theaters and the famed, fictional boxer brought the Cold War to its official end, but it seems our technological advancements are just starting to catch up to what Balboa already had at his fingertips. An oft forgotten piece of that movie is the personal assistant robot, Sico, which represented the level of success to which Rocky rose during the course of the previous three movies, becoming a wealthy world champion, and was something—while certainly creepy looking and sounding—every moviegoer pined for.
Now, thanks to the fine folks at Five Elements Robotics, we can all finally live out that dream with Budgee, the “Friendly Robot that Follows You and Carries Your Things.”
The company describes Budgee as a robot that will follow its owner around, tethered to a transceiver that the owner carries or wears, and can carry up to 50 lbs.—more than double the robot’s actual weight (22 lbs.). Five Elements Robotics said that Budgee is the first robot of its kind to be made available to the general public. The robot won the Gold American Business Award for Most Innovative Product and the Gold Award for New Product in Consumer Electronics earlier this year.
