Buy.com Launches “Garage Sale”
The online retailer Buy.com said Tuesday that it was unveiling a new feature called “Garage Sale,” which will allow users to sell products directly to their “friends” on social networking Web sites. The service is already available on Facebook.com, and will eventually make its way to other, similiar sites, the company said.
The new feature is aimed at making it easier for users to sell products to their friends, with lower transaction fees and much more ease of use. As part of the launch, a “Garage Sale” tab will be added to Buy.com’s main page later this year, and Facebook users can download the feature from that site’s application suite.
Buy.com lists “consumer electronics, computer hardware and software [and] cell phones” as three of the categories most often sold on its site. The Garage Sale service will be conducted on an e-commerce platform the company bought earlier this year from Shoperion, Inc.
