Camera Phones - Wireless Feature or Fixture?
A picture is worth a thousand words, but it is doubtful wireless users are cutting short their conversations to snap and send a picture with their camera phone today. Instead, users are supplementing their contacts and connections with colorful images, adding a whole new dimension to communication.
Camera phones are perhaps one of the more clever convergence devices to come to market over the past several years. They cater to consumers needs like few devices can—combining communication and productivity with convenience and fun. So what opportunities exist in the camera phone segment?
Some industry observers believe the best years for camera phones are still ahead, but according to CEA market research there is no better time than the present. CEA's "Wireless Phone Applications and the Future" study conducted in May 2004 found 11 percent of online adults (about 12 million) own a camera phone.
