Canon Realizes Dream of North American Headquarters
As one of Canon's top executives in the U.S. since the early 1960s, Fujio Mitarai oversaw the building the company's sales offices in key American cities and watched as sales and profits soared beyond his wildest dreams. But one part of his dream had remained unfilled until Friday.
"Today, my dream has come true," said Mitarai, now the company's chairman of the board and executive director, as he lead the grand opening of Canon's North American headquarters in Melville, N.Y., on Long Island.
Mitarai told the crowd executives and dignitaries, who gathered in the auditorium of the main building at the $500 million campus, that he recently added another dream to his list: to transform Canon's U.S. operations from one that mainly focuses on sales to one that emphasizes manufacturing and R&D.
