Car Makers Oppose HD Radio Requirement for Satellite Radio
Two major car makers have come out against a proposal to mandate inclusion of HD Radio with XM and Sirius. The proposal was brought up as a potential condition for the merger’s pending approval.
According to the radio industry publication FMQB, General Motors and Toyota have sent a joint letter to the FCC opposing the condition, calling it an “unprecedented requirement,” and pointing out that HD Radio is already gaining popularity even without the condition.
