Catching up with ... Mitchell Klein, Executive Director, Z-Wave Alliance
What led you to leave URC and join the Z-Wave Alliance?
I very much enjoyed my tenure at URC! Over the years I was instrumental in migrating URC from a remote control company to a network-based, whole house control system. I established the first-ever OEM relationship with Lutron, which created a line of lighting controls that were natively controlled by the URC remote controls. I then brought URC into the smart home via Z-Wave and followed up by creating the whole Vivido lighting control line. I created the partner program and launched countless 2-way modules, all of the above with incredible work from the URC product team. I built the URC training program and online University then left it all in very capable, talented hands.
That said, I felt I had done what I could with URC and wanted to find a spot right smack in the middle of the next big thing: this burgeoning “Internet of Things,” where my wide variety of skills – strategy, business acumen, vision, relationship-building, marketing and more - would have an impact on a much wider and broader scale.
