CCD Technology Compact Home
Home security cameras have often been thought to be only a luxury of the wealthy, serviced by specialized security dealers, but with a decreasing cost of technology and a perceived need in the market, several brand names are selling their cameras to retail.
These systems are primarily sold in two forms: the first is a camera and receiver package with the receiver connecting to a TV or VCR; the second is a camera and monitor combination, eliminating the need for TV/VCR hookup. Most newer models transmit video and audio and are wireless, making professional installation unnecessary.
Key to these surveillance systems is their use of closed coupled device (CCD) video imaging. Known for its high quality resolution and low-light capabilities, this technology was mostly found in high-tech professional equipment or security systems. Now it is quickly beginning to make its mark in the consumer electronics arena.
