Addressing this fact requires work from all stakeholders in the sale. It requires both the accessory and TV manufacturer to do a better job of product development, making sure that they are offering what the consumer will want to own, i.e., offering solutions.
It also requires the retailer to refocus their merchandising and planogram efforts to be sure that consumers are educated about and then offered the chance to purchase value-added solutions instead of just host devices.
As usual, no problem is fully solved unless all parties participate in the solution. In a flatter, faster world, risks shared can yield more opportunity for all, and most importantly, a satisfied consumer.
