CEA Backs Free Trade
The Consumer Electronics Association has launched an initiative urging Congress to uphold existing free trade agreements, and prevent the establishment of new trade barriers.
The comments came as Congress has begun considering several pending trade agreements, and discussion of the issue in the presidential primaries has raised the possibility that the days may be numbered for the federal government’s support of free trade. The CEA is active in the issue due the large amount of business it does overseas.
“Many of the two million Americans employed by the consumer electronics industry have jobs because their company expanded through overseas sales,” the President and CEO of CEA, Gary Shapiro, said in a statement issued by the organization. “We cannot let protectionist fears hold us back from doing what a great nation does – competing and winning in a global economy.”
