CEA: Consumer Confidence Mostly Flat
Right before Christmas, the Consumer Electronics Association announced another mixed verdict on consumer confidence. The CEA Index of Consumer Expectations (ICE) showed confidence in the overall economy rose 0.1 points in December, while the Consumer Technology Expectations index dropped slightly, by 2.7 points.
“Consumers are closing out the year with a decidedly optimistic view as sentiment recovers lost ground from declines earlier this year,” Shawn DuBravac, CEA’s chief economist and senior director of research, said as part of the announcement. “Recent announcements regarding Federal Reserve policy, as well as improving economic fundamentals, reaffirms 2014 will begin on more solid footing than we’ve seen in the last five years.”
