CEA Creates Standard For Smart Antennas
The Consumer Electronics Association announced Thursday that its antennas committee has adjusted the standard that defines testing for antennas that use broadcast receivers. The new standard adds the designation “smart antenna,” which refers to antennas that “automatically steer themselves for optimum reception” when they are used with compatible TV receivers.
As part of the announcement, the committee’s chairman, Hubbard Broadcasting consultant Ray Conover, called smart antennas “a terrific new technology” that makes free over-the-air technology possible in areas where it wasn’t previously. He added that he hopes this will lead to a smart antenna certification program.
Those interested in taking advantage of the technology are considered to visit CEA’s antenna Web site, www.antennaweb.org
