Convergence, long anticipated but finally here between the computer and the living room TV, isn’t a phenomenon limited to hardware and content. Brick-and-mortar CE retailing and e-commerce have finally come together with full force, even at the specialty dealer level.
Just what that signifies was the overarching topic during a CEA Line Shows panel entitled, “What’s in Store: Trends in CE & Technology Retailing,” moderated by Line Shows chair Natali Del Conte in New York City June 24th. Participants included Bob & Ron’s World Wide Stereo principal Bob Cole, Datavision principal Albert Liniado, CE industry hardware executive Bob Perry and Netsertive director of business development Jamie Sasser.
Cole, who has had to broaden his market approach as a high-end CE specialist and custom integrator to include “full bore e-commerce” in the last two years, said the choice has been “key to our survival. In the cyberworld, the playing field is flat because it’s not about geography. Those [specialty retail] companies doing it are surviving.”
