CEA Participates in SOPA Blackout
The Consumer Electronics Association Wednesday joined the protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP Act (PIPA), taking the CE.org website dark for the day.
The protest against the controversial legislation, which also included such popular sites as Wikipedia, drew significant media attention.
“During the course of the last month we have seen a remarkable phenomenon, as millions of Internet-using Americans have risen up against extreme copyright bills proposed by a group of large content companies," CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro said in a statement. "We are pleased that their message is beginning to be heard in Washington."
