CEA Praises Alternative Anti-Piracy Bill
The Consumer Electronics Association was part of the vocal opposition to anti-piracy legislation that was introduced in Congress earlier this year. CEA is now backing a bipartisan alternative bill.
CEA has endorsed The Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade (OPEN) Act, which was introduced by Rep. Darrell Issa and Sen. Ron Wyden. The bill would empower the International Trade Commission (ITC) to issue "cease and desist" orders against websites that infringe on copyrights.
"We appreciate the leadership of Rep. Issa and Sen. Wyden, and their bipartisan co-sponsors. The OPEN Act is a smart, targeted approach to the very real problem of foreign 'rogue' websites," CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro said as part of the announcement.
