In a statement issued Friday, CEA expressed their appreciation for efforts made by House Energy & Commerce Committee Chairs John Dingell (D-Mich.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) to further education about the upcoming transition to digital television. In a letter to FCC Chair Kevin Martin, Dingell and Markey expressed their concern about the timeliness of an education campaign slated to begin at the end of this year or the beginning of next, according to the Associated Press. The pair urged the FCC to begin sooner.
CEA has already been working with congress on this issue, creating a Web site, www.CE.org/hdtv, with a toolkit that enables congressmen to inform their constituents about the transition. They’ve also created a consumer site, www.myCEknowhow.com, with the same end in mind.
CEA is also a member of the DTV Transition Coalition (www.dtvtransition.org).
