CEA Pushes Free Trade in Washington
Members of the Consumer Electronics Association presented a variety of views on free trade agreements yesterday during the Washington Forum. But most agreed on one thing: free trade is needed to foster domestic and global economies.
Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez summed up much of the overall sentiment in his keynote speech. “We have to be aggressive in promoting bilateral free trade agreements,” he said, noting that 14 free trade agreements are now pending in Congress. “Standing still is a way of going back, and we can’t afford that.”
Free trade issues have dominated this year’s conference and will be on the forefront of CEA initiatives throughout the year, said CEA president and CEO Gary Shapiro.
