CEA Reassures FCC on Portable TV
CEA President/CEO Gary Shapiro has written a letter to the chairman of the FCC, Kevin Martin, reassuring him that there will be “plenty of options” for portable television once the analog signal shutoff takes place. According to the Orlando Sentinel’s “Etan on Tech” blog, the letter was written this week and is a response to concerns raised by Martin in an earlier letter.
“We have alerted our member companies about the importance of having a sufficient quantity of battery-powered converts, battery-powered television sets and battery packs available prior to the transition deadline,” Shapiro wrote. He pointed out that a new accessory category- the converter battery pack- has recently emerged in the industry.
