CEA’s Holiday Outlook: 2.5% Projected Growth in Tech Spending
Where are consumers buying their CE gifts? About 77 percent said they would likely buy from a brick-and-mortar store. However, mobile is gaining in momentum as a purchase driver and as tool for price and feature comparison for consumers. About 54 percent (up from 45 percent in 2013) said online buying would be their source of choice. In fact, one in four respondents (26 percent) said they planned to buy more holiday gifts online this year. And 67 percent of consumers buying online said they expected to use a mobile device to help them shop for CE.
As for Black Friday, about one in three consumers said their tech gift purchases would occur from Thanksgiving onward; only about 16 percent bought in October or earlier.
