CEA Sees Silver Lining in “Extremely Weak” Spending
While consumer spending is likely to be “extremely weak” this holiday season due to the nation’s present economic crisis, there remain a couple of causes for optimism in the electronics sector.
That’s the estimation of the Consumer Electronics Association’s economist, Shawn DuBravac, who hosted a special Web cast Tuesday afternoon. While bemoaning the weakness of the market, DuBravac said “we’re probably pretty close to the bottom” of the cycle.
After spending nearly 45 minutes of the 60-minute Web cast giving an elaborate history and explanation of the subprime mortgage meltdown and ensuing Wall Street crisis, DuBravac turned to the actual consumer market and specifically the role of CE in it.
