CEA Welcomes "Disruptive" Aereo, Uber, TMSOFT
The Consumer Electronics Association has announced that a trio of often controversial companies have joined the association as new members. Aereo, TMSOFT and Uber are all new members of CEA.
Aereo is an over-the-air TV service company, Uber is a mobile application for connecting passengers to drivers, and TMSOFT a sleep-aid mobile application providers. All three have been involved in well-publicized legal skirmishes with, respectively, broadcasters, city governments, and patent trolls.
"We are excited to welcome these game-changing companies to our association," CEA president and CEO Gary Shapiro said as part of the announcement. "New technology companies have historically been targets for incumbent industries and regulators because they threaten the establishment. As history has shown again and again, disruptive innovation is essential for economic growth and for empowering consumers."
