Toshiba to Display 'Cell TV' at CES Booth
Toshiba America Consumer Products, while emphasizing its multi-tiered REGZA LCD product offerings and the various improvements it is including at all performance and pricing levels, is planning to demonstrate prototypes at CES incorporating the Cell TV platform: a technology that vice president of TV marketing Scott Ramirez said portends the future direction of REGZA design.
One prototype, to show real-time super resolution, he said, consists of a set-top box and a separate, 56-inch 4k-by-2k LCD panel, with the box housing upconverting circuitry which applies Resolution+ technology combined with a new noise-reduction solution. The other prototype, using a 55-inch backlit LCD panel, shows the possibility of high-speed control of the panel’s local dimming. “This technology is in a category all its own. It’s the cleanest picture you’ve ever seen,” remarked Ramirez, noting the panel can display up to six high-definition images simultaneously.
While the company goal is eventually to deliver multiple REGZA models incorporating the high-speed-broadband Cell TV platform, Toshiba has significantly ratcheted up the image quality and performance capabilities on the newest REGZA SKUs, which range in screen size from 19 inches to 55 inches.
