Sanford has in the past encountered the male client who refused to talk to a woman. "I can't control his biases one way or the other," she explains. "I just make sure the guys deal with him face-to-face, and I deal with him in writing."
"When I started working in the business in the late '70s, it was a lot different," Scrivner recalls. "There were no women in any kind of automotive-related business. Most of the clientele were men. I'd run into people who didn't believe me just because I wasn't a man. Some were shocked but were pleasantly surprised; some were jerks."
