Christian Siriano Sends a Phone Out on the Runway
New York Fashion Week models are typically so ethereally gaunt, one button upon their fragile frames stands out as if it were a veritable bulge. So imagine the challenge for rising fashion designer Christian Siriano when one of his sponsors, wireless manufacturer LG, asked him to create a catwalk-ready garment that would seamlessly accomodate a palm-sized cellphone, the LG Lotus.
23-year-old Siriano, the asymmetrically-coiffed, fast-talking fashion prodigy who flounced to national fame by winning season four of Bravo's "Project Runway," presented his tech-friendly solution at his Fall 2009 Collection show last Thursday night. Amidst a runway parade of sparkling gold gowns and snakeskin ankle booties, Siriano sent out one of his models in a slim-fitted vest with the Lotus phone clam-shelled onto a precisely-cut front pocket.
"She worked it," said Siriano backstage after the show. "She was very downtown cool and brought a really chic outfit to a kind of hipper level."
