Circuit City MAD at Magazine Parody
Circuit City on Monday ordered an issue of the humor magazine MAD- which featured a parody of a Circuit City circular called “Sucker City”- banned from its stores. However, by day’s end the company had reversed its decision, according to the AP.
The four-page ad, which appeared in MAD’s August issue, included such jokes as an LCD TV from “Shiitake,” a Wii game called “Epilepsy Victim,” a flash drive/rectal thermometer called the “RectoCom,” and a software suite called “EmbezziTron Creative Bookkeeping.”
In an e-mail to the AP, a Circuit City spokesman blamed the flap on “some overly sensitive souls” at headquarters, while going on to praise the parody as “very clever.” About 40 of Circuit City’s U.S. locations contain magazine displays.
