Circuit City Plans Another New York Store
Circuit City has inked a deal to lease more than 35,000 square feet for a new store on the West Side of Manhattan near Lincoln Center, the real estate Web site CoStar.com reported Tuesday. The building was occupied until recently by a Tower Records location.
The deal, which is a ten-year lease, will put Circuit City on the entire second floor of the six-store building, as well as additional space on other floors of the building. The building is on the corner of 66th St. and Broadway, adjacent to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts; it is unknown if the store will use the standard Circuit City layout or its newer, smaller “The City” concept.
The store will compete with the location Best Buy recently opened at Columbus Circle, only seven blocks away. Competing head-to-head in New York is nothing new; the two chains last year opened new locations literally on the same block on Fifth Ave. in Midtown.
