Cisco Discontinues Flip Line in Consumer Exit
In an abrupt retreat from its consumer strategy, Cisco Systems Tuesday announced that it will discontinue the Flip line of video cameras, while also folding the Umi product into the company's existing Business TelePresence product line.
Cisco, the company said in a press release, "will exit aspects of its consumer businesses and realign the remaining consumer business to support four of its five key company priorities -- core routing, switching and services; collaboration; architectures; and video."
The company purchased Pure Digital, the maker of the Flip line, for just under $600 million in 2009. Cisco plans to continue to support FlipShare customers.
