Cisco Systems, the telecom networking giant that has aggressively pronounced its intentions to expand in the consumer electronics sector, made two significant moves in the past week moving it toward that goal.
Cisco's recently acquired subsidiary Pure Digital Technologies, which makes the popular FlipVideo HD camera, submitted technical plans to the Federal Communications Commission for an innovative remote control. Details about the device, including photos and schematics, appear on the FCC's Office of Engineering and Technology Website.
The technical filings show the device to be about the same size as the FlipVideo camera (1.5 by 4 inches), with sophisticated features. The remote control, if and when it comes to market, is likely to be integrated into Cisco's massive networked video agenda.
