ClearPlay’s Play: Market Expansion
ClearPlay, the five-year-old company/content filtration technology, has resurfaced on Best Buy shelves with its own-branded DVD players. Best Buy is selling the ClearPlay USB-enabled model, which lets owners who have bought a subscription download filtering data through their PCs and then shuttle the new formation to the player via the ClearPlay FilterStik.
But selling-through that affordably priced model isn’t ClearPlay’s only goal.
“We’re not a hardware company,” says CEO Andrew Duncan. ClearPlay, by Duncan’s account, sees a larger purpose and is backing that vision up with consumer survey numbers that are strongly supportive of the technology, and a 93 percent re-subscribe rate among its current customer base. Also, its principals have just formed ClearPlay International, which aims to further the company’s OEM licensing ambitions past American borders -- and past even DVD players.
