Coalition Calls For Free Recycling of TVs
An environmental lobbying group has called on the electronics industry to make it easier for customers to recycle their TVs, possibly by making such services available for free, the AP reported Thursday.
The group, called the Electronics TakeBack Coalition, is launching a Web site that will allow consumers to e-mail executives of major electronics companies and ask that they mandate free recycling. They have launched this, they say, because programs that require paying money to recycle “don’t work.”
Part of the reason for the campaign is that with the DTV transition coming in 2009, there will soon be a large surplus of obsolete televisions in need of disposal.
