Vendor View: Verbatim Hits 40
A year after Queen became president, Verbatim launched Store ‘n’ Go USB flash drives and continues to develop flash-based products to meet consumer demand for easy ways to store, share and transport data files, presentations, photos, music and video, which is fueling strong growth in the flash-based removable storage industry. According to Parks Associates, the storage needed for the average household’s digital media alone will grow from 225GB in 2008 to 625GB in 2011. Verbatim’s recently launched ExpressCard SSD features capacities of 16, 32 and 64GB.
Recognizing that consumers and businesses need the full range of removable and portable storage options, including, optical, flash and hard disk, Verbatim bought almost all of the assets of SmartDisk’s external hard drive and digital imaging business in 2007. The acquisition was part of Verbatim’s strategy to leverage the growing portable storage market and to complement its existing line of portable storage products.
“The need for a fast, easy way to back-up, store, share and transport [digital media] continues to fuel explosive growth in the worldwide removable storage industry," Queen said.
Here’s to another 40 years. DS
