Cleaning Up in Which Aisle?
Pinnacle Systems is well known among broadcasters and post-production companies for its professional video editing and content authoring technologies. Eight years ago, the Silicon Valley hardware and software maker branched into the consumer products sector, starting with low-cost video editing tools that let amateur producers soup up their home videos with the aplomb of a Hollywood auteur. Over the last few years, Pinnacle has sold seven million packages of its various "Studio" video editing products.
A year ago, Pinnacle further forayed into home video networking with its ShowCenter player, a $299 set-top box that can store and manage video files, digital photos and music. ShowCenter put the company in the midst of the personal computer/home media center avalanche.
