Consortium Establishes Wireless HD Standard
A group of major CE names, including Samsung, Sony, Sharp, Hitachi and Motorola, has agreed to support a standard for wireless HD signals, transmitted from a set-top box to TVs around the home. According to the Associated Press, the standard employs technology by the Israeli firm Amimon Ltd.
The technology is called WHDI, for Wireless Home Digital Interface.
The WHDI technology, however, competes with other technologies called WirelessHD and UWB (ultra wideband), which are also backed by Sony and Samsung, respectively.
