Consumer Confidence Numbers Mixed
Consumer confidence in both technology and the economy as a whole dropped in February, according to numbers released Wednesday by the Consumer Electronics Association. CEA's number, however, was contradicted by the Conference Board, which reported Wednesday that consumer confidence had reached a three-year high.
The CEA Index of Consumer Expectations (ICE) ended six straight months of upward movement, dropping to 172 from its 35-month high last month. The CEA Index of Consumer Technology Expectations (ICTE), meanwhile, dropped to 76.2, a ten-month low.
The Conference Board, however, reported that confidence had reached 70.4, its highest level since February of 2008.
