On Capitol Hill, Shapiro Talks DTV
Consumer Electronics Association President/CEO Gary Shapiro testified before Congress Wednesday, telling a committee that America is ready for June's DTV transition, and converter box supply shouldn't be a problem.
"Through conversations with retailers and manufacturers, we believe inventory through the remainder of the transition will be robust and sufficient to cover projected demand over the next three months," Shapiro told a subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, according to testimony released by CEA. He also cautioned against another delay of the transition.
At the hearing, subcommittee chairman Rep. Rick Boucher (D-Va.) expressed concern that demand for converter boxes could outstrip supply by as much as 5.5 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.
