3D TV Sparks Traffic and Sales for Regional Retailers
Say what you will about 3DTV, but the technology and related products helped drive traffic and sales in 2010 for regional retailers.
Internet-connected TV should generate more excitement in 2011, as will high-efficiency appliances. Here are some more thoughts from regional retailers who were highlighted in our recent roundtable.
Terry Oates: We’re seeing a great deal of interest in 3D; it’s generated a lot of conversation but not a great deal of velocity. It is getting
customers to come into the store to at least see. But there’s still a significant price difference between those TVs and others. The customers may say it’s too expensive, or that buying six or seven pairs of glasses is too expensive, but then they’ll go ahead and buy a similarly sized TV that isn’t 3D. It’s been good for traffic in electronics. We’ve also always been good at attachment of audio. Audio is the other part of watching television today. Presentation is the key.
