Consumers Have Questions About the Cloud
Even though most consumers at this point have used cloud computing in some form, just over one fifth actually are familiar with the phrase, according to an NPD Group study released Tuesday.
While 76 percent of U.S. consumers surveyed by NPD in its "Digital Software and the Cloud Report" used some type of cloud service in the past year, most did not know what "cloud computing" was. The top cloud activities named including email, tax preparation and gaming.
"Whether they understand the terminology or not, consumers are actually pretty savvy in their use of cloud-based applications," Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis for NPD, said as part of the announcement.
