The majority of Gen Yers listening to MP3s rate the sound quality as comparable to a typical stereo. While these statistics don't account for many variables (e.g. types of PC speakers, stereo reference point, etc.), it does give an indication that Gen Y accepts MP3 sound quality.
The overall MP3 play rate for on-line and off-line Gen Yers is approximately 36 percent. Among those not downloading and playing MP3s, the largest number (48 percent) say they're unsure why they haven't taken the MP3 leap. Other reasons given include: too much hassle (12 percent), takes too long to download (12 percent) and not the right kinds of music (6 percent).
An entire generation of music fans accepting of new technology is ready to buyif the industry can only figure out what they'll buy.
